The Nature & Wildlife Escape is designed for guests who want to slow down and enjoy river scenery, wildlife, and comfortable lodge time without the intensity of full fishing days. This two-night stay takes place at Rio Niño Lodge in the rural community of San José de Upala, with easy access to the river just across the road.

Guests stay in private, air-conditioned rooms with en-suite bathrooms. Daily breakfasts and dinners are included throughout the stay, featuring a mix of home-style Costa Rican meals prepared at the lodge or delivered fresh from trusted nearby kitchens. Lodge drinks and light snacks are also provided during your stay.

During the experience, guests enjoy one guided Scenic Wildlife Float on the Río Niño. This relaxed float focuses on wildlife viewing and river scenery rather than fishing. The Río Niño supports a variety of species commonly seen along the riverbanks and overhanging vegetation, including monkeys, birds, iguanas, turtles, and other native wildlife.

Scenic Wildlife Floats are flexible and typically depart mid-morning, when lighting, temperatures, and animal activity often create excellent viewing conditions. Each float generally lasts two to three hours, depending on river levels and flow. Start times may be adjusted by the guide based on weather, water clarity, and expected sightings.

If other guests at the lodge are fishing or participating in different activities, wildlife floats are scheduled to fit smoothly into the day without overlap or crowding. Their flexibility makes them especially well suited for couples, families, and mixed groups where not everyone is fishing.

This package is especially well suited for guests who enjoy comfortable lodging paired with light, low-impact activities and time to unwind between moments on the river.

A typical stay begins with afternoon arrival and check-in, followed by time to relax at the lodge before dinner. On the second day, breakfast is served in the morning, followed by the scenic wildlife float later in the morning unless conditions suggest a better departure time. After returning to the lodge, guests are free to relax, read, enjoy the patio or lounge, or explore nearby areas before dinner. On the final morning, guests enjoy breakfast and check out before continuing their journey.
