The Ultimate Angler Package is built for anglers who want maximum time on the water paired with a relaxed, unhurried lodge experience. This four-night stay takes place at Rio Niño Lodge in the rural community of San José de Upala, with river access located directly across the road.

Guests stay in private, air-conditioned rooms with en-suite bathrooms, offering a comfortable retreat between fishing days. Daily breakfasts and dinners are included throughout the stay, featuring a mix of home-style Costa Rican meals prepared at the lodge or delivered fresh from trusted local kitchens. Snacks and lodge beverages are available at all times.

Fishing is centered on the Río Niño, a smaller and technical river system well suited for fly fishing and light tackle. The river is known for aggressive guapote (jaguar cichlid), strong machaca, and seasonal snook during higher water conditions. This is an active and engaging fishery that rewards anglers who enjoy casting, adapting techniques, and exploring different types of water.

Over the course of your stay, you will experience three fully guided river days. Each day is adjusted based on river conditions, weather, and your preferences. Fishing approaches may include:

• Drift fishing along productive sections of the river
• Guided wading sessions on smaller water
• Scenic floats for a slower-paced river experience

To maintain a high-quality guided experience, time on the water is structured based on group size. Drift boat capacity is limited to three anglers per session and may be reduced to two in certain situations. Wading sessions are best suited for one or two anglers at a time.

For groups larger than three or with mixed activity preferences, a rotation schedule is organized to ensure each guest has dedicated time on the water while others relax at the lodge or enjoy the surrounding wildlife. This structure allows for a more personalized and balanced experience across multiple days.

This extended package is ideal for anglers who want to fully explore the Río Niño system, experiment with different fishing styles, and enjoy a slower, more immersive pace.

A typical stay begins with afternoon arrival, check-in, and a discussion of fishing plans. The following three days are spent on the river, with early departures and return by midday or early afternoon. Evenings are relaxed at the lodge with dinner and downtime. On the final morning, guests enjoy breakfast before departure.
